Which Electric Commuter Bike is Right for You?
As far as electric commuter bikes go, there are many versions out there, but only a few are worth considering. Many commuter e-bike manufacturers serve a niche market. For example, they might make e-bikes that are designed to carry heavy loads around campuses or industrial areas, which most riders don't need. Or, they might offer the product at such a low price that they need to sacrifice component quality. On the other hand, the price may be so high that few people can afford it.
On the other hand, today's comparison is between two commuter bikes that excel in both categories: the Shengmilo MX02S and the Gogobest GF600. These bikes are suitable for the everyday rider while offering quality components at an affordable price. All e-bikes are more environmentally friendly than carbon-emitting cars. When you think about how much money you'll save by not having to fill up your car with gas every few days, these electric commuter bikes make environmental and financial sense.
Electric commuter bikes
There is a lot to like about these two bikes. But before we dive into the main features you'll want to compare, we want to take a moment to point out that we're not comparing our bikes to the lowest-priced option or the most expensive option in its class. Doing so is not fair to ourselves or our competitors. Bikes at different prices are made for different people with different needs.
Instead, we look for bikes with similar styles, features, prices, and power. In this way, we can accurately measure how well our bikes meet the needs of actual consumers looking at two or more new e-bikes in the same or similar category.
In the image below, we break down the most important features to compare two commuter e-bikes in the mid-range price range. However, you may find that other considerations are more important to you and how you plan to use your bike. With that said, let’s get started with a cross-check of the two bikes:
price comparison
The first thing to note is that, as of the date of this article, both bikes cost €1299. This lets us know that we have priced the Shengmilo MX02S correctly to offer potential customers the best value for money. With inflation running rampant, we're proud to offer competitive prices on our best electric bikes.
range comparison
Despite being similarly priced, these two commuter e-bikes have vastly different ranges. The Shengmilo MX02S is equipped with a state-of-the-art lithium-ion integrated battery with a range of 35–55 miles on a single charge, depending on rider weight and pedal assist level. The battery is one of the most critical components of any e-bike, so we focused our attention there during development.
However, the Gogobest GF600 only lasts 30 to 40 miles per charge. While this might be acceptable for brief rides, we've discovered that riders frequently commute, run errands, and visit friends throughout the day. Within the constraints of the MX02S, this is easily accomplished. However, your GogoBest may die about halfway through the range.
Rear rack options
We appreciate Gogobest's Gogobest GF600 frame color options. As of this writing, our Shengmilo MX02S e-bike includes a rear rack for the same use case. The Gogobest doesn’t have a rear rack, which means it can’t transport cargo or people—one of the downsides of commuter e-bikes.
battery comparison
It can be seen that there is a clear difference in battery life levels between the two bikes. The 48V, 17Ah, long-life lithium battery on the Shengmilo MX02S has 816 Wh, so you don’t have to worry about running out of power when you need to travel long distances. This is great for those long rides you often enjoy outside.
The Gogobest promotional information does not go into detail about the battery structure, so information is limited. However, when compared to the larger upgraded battery technology on the Shengmilo, the 48V 13Ah battery's range may be shorter, and reaching 55 miles may be more difficult. We'd also like to point out that the MX02S's compatibility with SO nuances is limited. However, we can see that the 48V 13Ah battery has a shorter range and that reaching 55 miles is more difficult when compared to the larger upgraded battery technology on the Shengmilo. We'd also like to point out that pairing the MX02S with the high-performance 18650 5000mAh single-cell capacity improves the mileage, stability, and safety of Shengmio electric bicycles, extending the battery's life. Unfortunately, it is unknown whether GogoBest has such a configuration.
capacity comparison
Both bikes weigh in at 400 lbs. Carrying capacity. Shengmilo MX02S provides a variety of loading and unloading functions that can easily accommodate your luggage, rear baby seats, express boxes, etc. However, Gogobest does not provide a rear rack, and if you need to carry large cargo, you will have to pay extra to purchase a suitable rear rack. We were happy with the volume specs on both bikes. Any good commuter e-bike should be able to carry 400 lbs. of equipment or supplies, including riders. Shengmilo MX02S stands out in terms of having a rear rack, and it is more cost-effective.
brake comparison
Finally, we arrive at the brakes. We've previously discussed the differences between hydraulic disc brakes and mechanical disc brakes in the hopes of assisting you in selecting the best brake. The MX02S features front and rear dual hydraulic brake systems that provide quick and smooth braking. The spring-damped shock absorbers filter the road and provide strong braking power. To ensure your safety, the power is immediately turned off when you brake. Mechanical disc brakes, dual front and rear disc brake systems, fast heat dissipation, automatic power off, and efficient and smooth braking even in emergency braking are all used by Gogobest.
While the Gogobest GF60 gets good results overall, riders will have to sacrifice power, range, and a rear rack for the same price as the Shengmilo MX02S. For this reason, we think the MX02S is the winner of the best commuter e-bike in this segment by a considerable margin. Riders can expect a comfortable ride because, among other things, the bike has fat tires, a long battery life, and hydraulic disc brakes.
See you next time, and have a nice ride!
